On May 13th, under the witness of Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib, AQSIQ Minister Zhi Shuping signed, with the Malaysian Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry YB Dato' Sri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, the agreement on phytosanitary requirements on pineapple to be exported from Malaysia to China.

China and Malaysia are neighboring countries with broad common interests, and the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership has maintained good development momentum. The cooperation in the area of inspection and quarantine is of rich achievements. In 2004, AQSIQ signed the MOU on SPS cooperation with its Malaysian counterpart and formally established bilateral SPS cooperation mechanism. Meanwhile, AQSIQ has been conducting proactive cooperation with Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry within the 10+1 (ASEAN + China) framework. The agreement newly signed on pineapple will further the bilateral cooperation on the inspection and quarantine of food and agricultural products and promote further development of bilateral trade.
