The 5th China-US-EU trilateral summit on consumer product safety held in Beijing

  AQSIQ, CPSC and DG Justice and Consumers of EU Commission held the 5th China-US-EU trilateral summit on consumer product safety in Beijing on June 22-23, 2016. AQSIQ Vice Minister Mr. Sun Dawei, Chairman of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission Mr. Elliot F. Kaye, and European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Ms V?ra Jourová attended the meeting.

  The three sides reviewed and positively recognized the achievements made in consumer product safety cooperation since the previous summits. Focusing on the theme of this summit, i.e., new business modes, new development and to jointly safeguard consumer product safety, the three sides conducted discussions on how to meet the new challenges created by new business modes, particularly on consumer product safety in e-commerce, and reached consensuses on further deepening trilateral cooperation in inspection and quarantine, improving dialogue mechanism, reaching a win-win situation, promoting a harmonized development in trade of multiple modes and maintaining the safety and health of consumers in China, the US and Europe. The meeting also worked out concrete aims and tasks for deepening future cooperation.

  In the closing remarks, Sun Dawei proposed that the three sides hold tightly the development trend of the new trade modes, jointly pay close attention to the supervision of consumer product safety in cross-border e-commerce, form common understandings, conduct cooperation and communication in new business modes and, under the respective legal frameworks, take effective regulatory measures on e-commerce operators, strengthen online consumer product safety, and strengthen deeper cooperation in technical regulations, standards and conformity assessment of consumer product safety

  The representatives from the US and EU also made respective proposals on jointly strengthening the regulation of consumer product safety in e-commerce and deepening trilateral cooperation among regulators of the three sides.
