Officials of Beijing municipal government expressed on August 22 that Olympic food safety work went on well and no food safety accident had been reported so far.

Spokeswoman Tang Yunhua of Beijing Municipal Government Food Safety Supervision and Coordination Office said on a news conference on 22, that from Auhust 7 to 21, Beijing Olympic food safety inspectors had supervised and examined more than 1,600,000 foods for athletes, officials coming with teams and medias in Olympic Village, Media Village, and all competing venues, all Olympic places had sent and received over 4800 batches of food materials, and not a single food safety accident had been reported.

Tang Yunhua said that since February 2007, inspection departments had selectively examined 16,610 samples from enterprise supplying Olympic foods and drinks, and 98.67% of them had been proved qualified. Products failed inspection had been totally destroyed or locked up so that none of them could reach Olympic food tables. Inspection departments also punished related manufactures. As a result, 100% of food supplied for Olympics are qualified.
